Characters

Edward Kenway

Edward James Kenway (1693 - 1735) was a Welsh-born British privateer-turned-pirate and a member of the Assassin Order. He is the father of templar Haytham Kenway, grandfather of Assassin's Creed III's protagonist Connor Kenway and Desmond Miles' ancestor. Kenway is captain of Jackdaw.

Kenway joined the British Royal Navy when he was young, and was stationed in the West Indies. He wanted fame and fortune, thus he became a pirate. He became a part of the conflict between the Assassins and the Templars when he killed and stole a rogue Assassin Duncan Walpole's robes. His greed for money kept him tied to the conflict. Later on, he began searching for the mysterious Observatory, a First Civilization structure hidden in the West Indies. The owner of the Observatory can monitor anyone with a drop of blood.

Mary Read

Mary Read (1685 - 1721) was an English Pirate and member of the Assassin Order. She was trained by the Mentor of the Caribbean Assassins, Ah Tabai.

In order to facilitate her career as a pirate, she took the identity as James Kidd and claimed to be son of the famous pirate William Kidd.

Mary was born in London, England. Dressed as boy, she worked as a foot boy for a rich French woman. But soon she ran away to sign onboard a Man-O-War.

Some years later, still wearing men's clothing, Mary jumped a ship, but only to enlist in a foot regiment of the British Army. She fought well and showed great bravery. Mary later joined a horse regiment where she fell in love with a soldier, whom she reviled her true identity to.

Mary's husband died shortly after the wedding, and once again she wore men's clothing and shipped off to the West Indies.

Mary met Ah Tabai in Spanish Town, Jamaica. She trusted him at once, sensing a "sort of wisdom" in him, and became an Assassin soon after.

She establishment the Pirate Republic in Nassau along with Edward Thatch(Blackbeard) and Benjamin Hornigold.

Mary's pirate carrier ended, on October 1720. She was captured, by Captain Barnet in desperate battle. In Port Royal, they stood trial. Rackam and his crew were found guilty of piracy, but Mary and Anne were spared because they claimed to be with child.

Read and Bonny were soon rescued by Edward and Ah Tabai. But despite this, Mary was too ill to leave, even with Edward's insistence.

With her dying breath, Mary asked him to redeem himself for her sake, and said she would always be with him. Refusing to leave her behind, Edward carried her body to Ah Tabai's boat, and she was taken to Tulum for burial.

''We're Assassins and we follow a Creed, aye. But it does not command us to act or submit... only to be wise.''
